With the show due to be performed twice a day for three months, we meet the performers, the team pulling it together, and the townsfolk who will flock to each show day after day. In the background Brexit is hitting its stride, and as we see the talent and the passion driving the show, we also witness a microcosm of a Britain in flux.

All shot beautifully on 16mm film, Seaside Special is affectionate and funny filmmaking reflecting the eccentricities of classic English entertainment while the country sets out to leave its European neighbours.

October 2023 is Domestic Violence awareness month which gives an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding of Domestic Violence and the damaging impact on the lives of individuals affected by this hidden crime.

Local community organisation Phenomenal Futures are grateful  to be able to host a screening of the film What’s love got to do with it? which showcases the true story of the abuse suffered by the legendary singer Tina Turner at the hands of her first husband Ike Turner. Tina was a truly inspirational woman who went on to leave behind her abusive past and become one of the most successful female recording artists of her generation.

Phenomenal Futures is committed to further developing the ground-breaking work carried out by award winning local charity We R Here by providing new initiatives working with survivors of domestic abuse and their families to promote recovery and support the process of moving from surviving to thriving. We R Here are delighted to be able to partner with Phenomenal Futures in this transitional work.

This event is part of the “Phenomenal Women” empowerment project and a short talk will be given prior to the screening to introduce and celebrate stories of restoration and hope with true life testimonials of Survivors who are finding their way with the right help and support to take hold of a Phenomenal Future.

In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines. He had staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. In 2019, the Hong Kong government’s plans to introduce a law permitting the extradition of criminal suspects to Mainland China sparked a mass protest movement unprecedented in scale. The people of Hong Kong marched to save what they saw as the city’s eroding freedoms and rule of law. When their demands went unheeded, the protests intensified, and the streets of Hong Kong became soaked in tear gas and blood as valiant frontline protesters clashed with riot police. Behind the frontliners stood a peaceful silent majority, committed to a hard-won solidarity as they attempt to save the city that they love.

Love in the Time of Revolution takes viewers onto the streets of Hong Kong, to the very front lines of the protests, and follows the stories of just some of the protesters and their fellow Hong Kong citizens.
